Here in Latin America since this year we have an annual Ubuntu event that will take place in a different city every edition.

The 2013 edition will take place in Montevideo Uruguay and we have started to organize everything to make the 2013 edition as good as the 2012 one.

The call for talks have already open and you can get more info in Here, and if you happen to be near Montevideo next 7th and 8th June just come to the event!!

Great Ubuntu participation on Latinoware

The last week took place in Foz de Iguazu, Brazil the 2012 edition of Latinoware, and I had the wonderful opportunity to give two talks and join Ubuntu-BR team.

This was a really great event, where I got surprised by the level of the organization, that was great! and how great, open and friendly is the Ubuntu-BR team, even the fact I don’t speak a single word of Portuguese and they don’t speak Spanish, we got a way to communicate our selves!!

It was a busy event for 4200 people, our stand was always full, people asking for cds, lanyards, tshirts or solutions for some ubuntu problems, we end up really tired but it was a great experience!.

On a remarkable story to tell, the Ubuntu 12.10 talk turned into a Gangnam style dance contest when Tiago showed the Youtube integration with webapps.

I add some pictures from the event and I want to thank the Organization of the event, specially Duda, for taking me there, and all the Ubuntu-br team (Tiago, Julian, Marta, Ursula and Ayrton) for let me be one of their great team!

Python Docs Unity Lens

Playing around with Quicky and Unity lenses I come up with this:

a lens that searches in docs.python.org and provide links to the docs.

It works pretty well (just the first search is a little slow, and I am working on it)

if you want to try it

just add the PPA:pablorubianes-uy/pythondoc and install pythondoc-lens (its not a final release so… USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK :P and if you find some issue please File the bug)

UbuConLA needs your support

Hello, for the ones who don’t know, Argentina and Uruguay LoCos are collaborating in the creation of the UbuConLA, an annual conference that will take place in different cities of Latin America every year, this edition will be in Buenos Aires, Argentina,  next 1st and 2nd June, and as we want to have the best event possible, we are asking for collaborations.

Here you can support the event in this fundraising site. (sorry but is in Spanish, but is quite easy to understand it)

Every penny that someone can send us will be a huge help us in this event or the 2013 edition in Montevideo, Uruguay, if we can save some money too.

Montevideo, Ubuntu Welcome Day!!!

Sorry for the time it took to post this results, so here I go!

The first Ubuntu welcome Day was a big hit! for the onces who don’t remember or not know about this idea,
Welcome Day is a street meeting where LoCo members talk about Ubuntu to regular people who are passing by. Instead of IRC to get new people, we go to look for them!!!

We heal this event the same day that the User Day, but as we don’t want to interfere other events we could set different dates for next edition of the Welcome Day if other LoCos want to join this idea. Also get a wiki page open so we could share ideas to improve this idea and experience.

In Montevideo we get permission to do the event in the Visual Arts Museum Garden, also internet access provided from the Museum, so we did demos with laptops if people wanted to see what we where talking about.

We hope many other LoCos join us in this idea in the future!
